In March 2015, the name Workhorse Custom Chassis was changed to Workhorse Group Incorporated, with Co-founder and CEO Steve Burns leading the company. Under AMP, Workhorse started offering a range of vehicles. In March 2013, AMP Electric Vehicles-an Ohio-based company delivering all-electric vehicles that work in the real world-acquired the Workhorse brand and the Workhorse Custom Chassis assembly plant in Union City, IN. Workhorse was a Navistar company for five years-it was in 2012 when Navistar decided to shutter its Workhorse plant to cut costs after suffering heavy losses. Seven years later, Navistar, a leading manufacturer of buses, commercial trucks, defense vehicles, and engines, acquired it. Investors who took over production and sales of General Motors' popular P-series Stepvan chassis started it in 1998 as Workhorse Custom Chassis.
